Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya commented on the release of another group of Belarusian political prisoners, thanking US President Donald Trump, his special envoy John Coale, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Smith, and the US administration for their efforts.
“There is great joy and relief in our hearts. 250 political prisoners are free and will be able to embrace their loved ones. This is always the most joyful moment — when a person who has gone through unjust imprisonment is reunited with their family,” she wrote on her Telegram channel.
She noted that thanks to US efforts, 235 people remained in Belarus, while another 15 were taken to Lithuania, where they will receive the necessary support.
“I am sincerely grateful to Donald Trump, John Coale, Christopher Smith, and the US administration, which is tirelessly working to free people. These humanitarian efforts are delivering results and saving lives. I also thank all our partners who, together with us, are persistently working to secure the release of all political prisoners, end repression, and bring real change to Belarus,” the politician said.
At the same time, Tsikhanouskaya stressed that many people remain behind bars.
“Our goal is for everyone to be released and for repression to finally stop, so that every person can return home,” she said.
It should be recalled that talks were held in Minsk today between Alyaksandr Lukashenka and US President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale. Lukashenka said Belarus is ready to follow agreements with the United States regarding political prisoners.
