Latvia has expanded the list of products whose import from Belarus and Russia is prohibited. The relevant amendments were approved by the Latvian government on Aug. 4.
Until now, the ban had applied to cereals, vegetables, fruit and certain types of animal feed. The updated list includes live animals, fish and fish products, dairy products, milling industry products, oilseed crops, meat products, processed fruit and vegetable products, all types of feed, coffee, tea, spices, sugar, and certain types of animal and vegetable fats and oils.
“The list of prohibited products has been expanded because foreign trade data show that several groups of agricultural products and feed that were not previously subject to the ban continue to be imported into Latvia from Russia and Belarus in 2026.
According to these data, agricultural products, feed and food products worth €24.9 million were imported from Russia and Belarus between January and July 2026. Of that amount, agricultural products and feed accounted for €18.3 million, while various food products accounted for €6.6 million,” the Latvian government’s press service reported.
Latvia banned imports of agricultural products from Belarus and Russia in 2024.
