Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Belarusian volunteers and fighters who fought on Ukraine’s side. The meeting took place in Warsaw on February 27. It was also attended by the representative for defence and national security of the United Transitional Cabinet, Vadzim Kabanchuk.
Tsikhanouskaya thanked the volunteers for their courage and principled stance in the fight against Russian aggression.
“Belarusian volunteers have made and continue to make an enormous contribution to the fight against Russian aggression. Thanks to you, the world sees that Belarusians are not accomplices in this war, but a people who are fighting for the security of the entire region,” she said.
The participants discussed strategic cooperation with Ukraine. The discussion also covered Tsikhanouskaya’s visit to Ukraine, which is planned for the coming months. The issue of legalisation of Belarusian volunteers in Ukraine was addressed separately.
In addition, conditions for Belarusian veterans were discussed. In particular, the need to revise regulations that effectively equate Belarusian volunteers with citizens of the aggressor state, payments to the families of those killed, extending the period of legal stay after the end of contracts, simplifying legalisation in Ukraine, and creating mechanisms for resocialisation after service.
