Belarusian Long-Haul Driver Caught Smuggling Cigarettes in Mattress to Lithuania

Lithuanian customs officers discovered cigarettes hidden inside a truck driver’s mattress. Both the cigarettes and the vehicle were seized.

On February 25, a truck driven by a Belarusian citizen arrived at the Medininkai border crossing. Customs officers were not alerted by the cargo, but by a mattress in the driver’s cab. An inspection revealed cigarette packs concealed inside.

Customs officers seized 9,400 cigarettes worth €2,326, as well as the tractor unit with a semi-trailer valued at €15,390. An administrative protocol was drawn up against the driver, the Lithuanian Customs Service reported.
