Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met representatives of FC Pahonia, a football club based in Warsaw. According to Tsikhanouskaya’s Office, the meeting was attended by club co-founder Illia Shyla and footballer Vital Haiduchyk.
The discussion focused on the development of sport in exile, the role of sports initiatives in bringing together Belarusian society, and the challenges facing the club. In particular, the participants discussed access to training facilities and infrastructure, the search for additional sources of funding, and support in establishing contacts with partners.
“Belarusians abroad need not only cultural and educational projects, but also places where people can gather, communicate, build a community and feel part of something bigger. FC Pahonia plays exactly such a role.
The club has an idea to open a children’s football school. It is important that young Belarusians have the opportunity to play sports in their own environment, make friends, hear the Belarusian language and feel connected to their culture. I very much hope that this project will receive further development and support,” Tsikhanouskaya said.
