Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said Belarus had for too long been viewed by the international community as a country experiencing a human rights crisis, rather than as a threat to European security. According to her, that was a mistake. The democratic forces leader stressed that dictatorships left to their own devices become even more dangerous.

“Belarus is not a grey zone. It is in the heart of Europe, bordering Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. What happens in Belarus affects the security of the whole region. In 2022, the dictator allowed Russia to use our land to attack Ukraine. Now, Belarusian territory is used to threaten Europe,” the politician wrote on X.

“Dictatorships do not stay frozen. When left alone, they become more dangerous. A free Belarus would never be a threat to our neighbors. A sovereign Belarus would be a security guarantee for the region. Belarus cannot be treated as a footnote. It is part of the solution to European security,” she added.
