During the meeting, the participants discussed the situation of political prisoners in Belarus, as well as possibilities for cooperation between the democratic forces and the Lithuanian Seimas, Tsikhanouskaya’s Office reported.

“It is important to clarify the fate of the resolution on Belarus, which has been prepared but not yet put to a vote. It is also relevant to discuss the prospects for signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Lithuanian parliament and the democratic forces of Belarus. In addition, 2027 will be the year of Lithuania’s presidency of the European Union. Time is moving fast, and planning and reaching agreements must start now. Can we consider Lithuania a strategic partner of the democratic forces in 2027? The answer is being formulated here and now”, Anatol Liabiedzka said on the eve of the meeting.

Ales Bialiatski was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was among the 123 political prisoners “pardoned” on 13 December. Bialiatski was taken out of Belarus to Lithuania.

A meeting between Ales Bialiatski and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda took place several days ago.
