The arrival of Belarusian political prisoners released on 13 December in Warsaw is expected tonight or tomorrow morning. This was reported by Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet Pavel Latushka and the Cabinet’s representative for social policy Volha Zazulinskaya.
They will be taken to the Belarusian Solidarity Centre at Oleandrów 6, 00-636 Warsaw. The exact arrival time will be announced as soon as the Ukrainian-Polish border has been crossed.
UTC representatives urge those meeting the arrivals to be attentive and considerate.
“Today we are meeting people who are returning to life after years of political imprisonment. They have gone through a very difficult journey, enduring exhaustion and traumatic experiences whose consequences do not disappear on the day of release. We appeal to Belarusians, to journalists and to the public to be attentive and careful. It is important to remember that today is not a celebration for everyone: there are families whose loved ones remain behind bars.
People who regain their freedom need time to recover, space without pressure and respect for personal boundaries. Each of them has the right to decide for themselves when and how to speak about what they have lived through. It is our shared responsibility to welcome those released with support and human dignity,” they noted.
