Traffic Police Fired Shots to Stop Driver, Who Turned Out to Be a Drunk Teenager

Traffic police officers from the Salihorsk District Department of Internal Affairs used firearms to stop a driver who attempted to flee from them. The driver turned out to be a drunk teenager, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

According to the ministry, near the village of Izdrasheva, officers signaled a Ford driver to pull over. He ignored the order, prompting a chase that, according to video footage, ended in a cornfield.

“The offender did not respond to repeated lawful demands from the police to stop. He was swerving on the roadway and driving onto the shoulder, creating a real threat to the life and safety of other road users. Firearms were used to stop the vehicle,” the ministry said.

The driver was eventually detained. He was identified as a 16-year-old local resident showing clear signs of intoxication. A breath test showed more than one promille of alcohol in his system. He also did not have a driver’s license. Two passengers aged 15 and 16 were in the car.

“Six administrative reports were filed. For drunk driving, the teenager faces a fine of 200 base units (8,400 rubles). The car, which he had bought without re-registration, has been impounded in a secured parking lot,” the ministry added.
