The exercise includes practicing the formation of people’s militia units and the organization of a curfew.
Units and command bodies from Homiel, Sviatlahorsk, Aktsiabrski and Mazyr districts are taking part in the exercise. As part of the drills, defense councils of the Homiel Region and its districts have been operating, the Belarusian Defense Ministry reports.
“The key task for us is to work through issues related to organizing support for a special legal regime in the region. The defense council makes the relevant decisions and ensures that the prescribed measures are carried out, including the organization of a curfew in certain cities and populated areas,” said Andrei Krauchanka, head of the Territorial Defense Department and deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
The exercise also covers preparations for the formation and deployment of people’s militia units, as well as the organization and enforcement of a curfew.
“During the exercise, we make the necessary decisions and practically work through issues related to the preparation and deployment of these units in the districts where command-and-staff activities are being conducted.
At the same time, modern realities are taken into account. Particular attention is paid to implementing measures within the framework of the special legal regime that has been introduced, as well as organizing a curfew — both from the standpoint of management and its practical implementation in a particular populated area,” Krauchanka said.
