Belposhta will stop accepting parcels containing goods for delivery to European Union countries from November 1. The move is linked to the introduction of new EU customs requirements.

From November 1, the EU will introduce customs handling fees for goods imported from third countries through distance sales and e-commerce. The requirements also apply to international postal shipments, regardless of their actual value.

“Due to the lack of technical capacity to transmit the required information on product identifiers to the customs authorities of European Union countries, the Republican Unitary Enterprise Belposhta is suspending acceptance of all types of international postal items containing goods destined for European countries,” Belposhta said in a notice.

The changes will not affect international postal items containing goods sent between private individuals, provided they are not related to distance sales or e-commerce. This includes gifts with an actual value not exceeding €45.

Belposhta is working with the Universal Postal Union to find a solution to the problem.
