Belarusian human rights defenders have recognized six more individuals as political prisoners. They are Aliaksandr Karmanovich, Dzmitry Kalinouski, Artsiom Batischeu, Zhanna Auramchyk, Aliaksandr Piuchuk, Aksana Valkovich, the human rights center Viasna reports.
Aliaksandr Karmanovich was convicted under Article 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting Lukashenka and sentenced to two years of restricted freedom with placement in a correctional facility. He is currently serving his sentence.
Dzmitry Kalinouski was convicted under Article 361 of the Criminal Code on charges of “calls for illegal actions aimed at harming the national interests of the Republic of Belarus” and sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony.
Artsiom Batischeu was convicted under Article 369 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting a government official and sentenced to two years of restricted freedom with placement in a correctional facility. He is serving his sentence.
Zhanna Auramchyk was convicted under Article 369 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting a government official and sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony. It was recently reported that she is in serious condition.
Aliaksandr Piuchuk was convicted under Articles 370, 369, 368, and 367 of the Criminal Code on charges of desecrating state symbols, insulting a government official and Lukashenka, and defamation, and sentenced to restricted freedom with placement in a correctional facility. He is serving his sentence.
Aksana Valkovich was convicted under Articles 369 and 368 of the Criminal Code on charges of insulting a government official and Lukashenka and sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony.
As of March 30, 2026, the number of political prisoners in Belarus stands at 913.
