Russia Conducts Test Launch of Sarmat Intercontinental Missile

Russia has conducted a successful test launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile.

“The test results confirmed the correctness of the design and technological solutions incorporated into the system, as well as the missile complex’s ability to achieve the specified characteristics,” Commander of Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces Sergey Karakayev said in a report to Vladimir Putin.

Putin stated that the Sarmat missile system would be placed on combat duty by the end of this year.

Putin emphasized that the Sarmat is capable of overcoming all missile defence systems.

“This is the most powerful missile system in the world, not inferior in power to the Voyevoda missile system, which remains in service and was produced in Soviet times. The total power of the warhead delivered by this missile exceeds the power of any existing most powerful Western analogue by four times. The missile can travel not only along a ballistic trajectory, but also along a suborbital trajectory, which makes it possible to ensure a range of more than 35,000 km while simultaneously improving accuracy characteristics twofold, with the ability to overcome all existing and prospective missile defence systems,” Putin said.
