Russia continues to impose restrictions on Armenia. Starting June 3, Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) is restricting imports of pome fruits, eggplants, potatoes and dried fruits originating from and shipped from Armenia.
The ban also applies to the transit of these products through Russian territory to other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
“The restrictions will remain in place until an appropriate mechanism is developed to ensure the safety of shipped goods,” Rosselkhoznadzor said.
Earlier, Rosselkhoznadzor imposed restrictions on imports of sour cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines, grapes, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, leafy greens, strawberries, flowers, mineral water, brandy and wines from three Armenian producers.
Russian pressure on Armenia has intensified in response to Yerevan’s policy of closer integration with the European Union. EAEU member states have also said that Armenia should hold a referendum on whether to join the European Union or remain in the EAEU. Russia has also recalled its ambassador from Armenia for consultations.
