In the village of Pabiedzinshchyna in the Vitsyebsk district, a 53-year-old woman and her 67-year-old neighbour beat a dog with a sledgehammer over “strangled chickens.” The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on charges of animal cruelty.
In April this year, the woman and her neighbour, both intoxicated, threw a towing cable around the neck of a German shepherd and beat it with a sledgehammer. Neighbours heard barking and whining and rushed to help the dog.
To avoid attracting the attention of fellow villagers, the accused dragged the dog into a shed, suspended it by the neck using the cable, and went off to drink alcohol. Meanwhile, neighbours removed the dog from the hook and called the police. The woman told the responding officers that the shepherd had “strangled chickens.”
The dog was found to have sustained multiple injuries. The tortured animal was taken in by a neighbour.
A criminal case has been opened against the 53-year-old woman and the 67-year-old man under Part 2 of Article 339 of the Criminal Code (animal cruelty committed by a group of persons). The investigation is ongoing.
