Polish Defense Ministry Employee Suspected of Espionage Traveled to Belarus

A court has ordered the three-month detention of an employee of Poland’s Ministry of National Defense suspected of espionage. As learned by Radio Zet, the man had traveled to Belarus.

The detention of the Defense Ministry employee was reported on February 3. He is suspected of cooperating with the services of one of the states of the “eastern direction.” The suspect had worked at the ministry for 30 years. In the months prior to his arrest, he was under full surveillance by the Military Counterintelligence Service. According to unofficial information from PAP, the detainee was an employee of the Department of Strategy and Defense Planning.

As Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said, the detainee was employed at the ministry as a civilian employee. Among his duties was maintaining a register of facilities of particular importance to security.

It is known that the suspect traveled to Belarus and was unable to return for some time due to border closures.
