Poland’s Ministry of the Interior and Administration has reported a noticeable decline in activity along the Polish-Belarusian border. According to the ministry, the number of attempts to cross the border illegally is decreasing, and incidents of aggression against border patrols are also becoming less frequent.
Just a few weeks ago, up to 100 illegal crossing attempts were recorded per day. Now the number has fallen to several dozen daily.
In parallel, work continues on upgrading the border protection system. Construction of the technical road is nearing completion, and new observation towers are being built. The ministry stresses that strengthening the infrastructure is necessary, as migrant groups continuously seek new ways to cross the border, and it is important to stay ahead of their actions.
Since the start of the year, more than 29,000 attempts to cross the Polish-Belarusian border illegally have been prevented. Nearly 300 organizers of illegal migration have been detained.
Around 2,200 officers from the Podlaskie Border Guard Unit are involved in protecting the state border, supported by the police and the Polish Armed Forces under Operation “Safe Podlasie”.
Poland plans to reopen the Kuźnica Białostocka and Bobrowniki border checkpoints at 02:00 Belarus time on 17 November. Kuźnica (Bruzgi) will open for passenger vehicles, excluding buses, while Bobrowniki (Berastavitsa) will reopen for buses and trucks registered in EU member states, the European Free Trade Association, the European Economic Area and Switzerland.
Poland closed traffic through the Bruzgi–Kuźnica crossing in the Hrodna region in autumn 2021, when unrest involving migrants broke out near the checkpoint. The Bobrowniki crossing was closed in February 2023 in response to repression against the Polish minority in Belarus.
Currently, two road crossings remain operational between Belarus and Poland: Brest–Terespol for passenger cars and buses, and Kazlovichy–Kukuryki for freight transport, as well as rail crossings for freight trains at Kuźnica Białostocka–Hrodna, Siemianówka–Svislach, and Terespol–Brest.
