Overpriced Tomatoes and Cucumbers Found at Mahilyow Market

The State Control Committee conducted inspections of retail outlets in Mahilyow and the Krasnapolle district and identified a number of violations.

At one of Mahilyow’s markets, State Control Committee officers found inflated prices for vegetables. Trade markups on imported tomatoes amounted to 37 percent and 44 percent instead of the permitted 15 percent, and on Belarusian cucumbers — 38 percent instead of 30 percent, the committee reported.

In Krasnapolle, inflated prices were found in four outlets. In one of the stores, trade markups on 12 types of goods were increased by up to 1.2 times. Two individual entrepreneurs at the market were selling fruits and vegetables with markups inflated by 3.8 times.

Inspectors also found more than 40 bottles of de-icing fluid without price tags, documents, or labeling. All of the de-icing fluid was removed from sale.
