Preparations for Construction of Minsk Metro’s Circle Line Could Begin This Year

Preparatory work for the construction of a new circle line of the Minsk Metro could begin this year, Minsk-Novosti reports.

According to the publication, the initial section of the line will be about 4 kilometers long and will include three stations: Maksima Bahdanovicha (an interchange station), Staravilenski Shliakh, and Viasnianka. The engineering designs for two of the stations have already been approved, while the third is still being finalized. Plans are also being prepared for the demolition of buildings and structures, as well as the relocation of utility networks.

“This is necessary to clear the site for the Alesia and Maryia tunnel boring machines. In the future, the purchase of additional tunnel boring machines is also possible. They may even be larger in diameter than the six-meter Alesia and Maryia—specifically 10- and 13-meter machines. This would allow metro builders to tackle more complex engineering tasks. A 10-meter machine is capable of excavating a twin-track tunnel. It requires larger volumes of concrete for the tunnel lining but has less impact on nearby residential, administrative, and industrial buildings. A 13-meter giant can even accommodate the structure of a standard station platform section,” Mikhail Rudzko, director of Minskmetroproekt, told the publication.

The three stations on the new line will be built at depths ranging from 15 to 25 meters. They will feature granite flooring, while the walls will be either painted or partially clad with porcelain stoneware tiles. Design concepts have already been prepared for the stations. Maksima Bahdanovicha station will incorporate imagery inspired by the poet’s works. Staravilenski Shliakh will reflect a contemporary approach to urban architecture. Viasnianka will be designed around the theme of the arrival of spring.
