Aliaksandr Lukashenka said he wants Algeria to become a gateway country for Belarusian cooperation in Africa. He made the statement during a meeting with Speaker of Algeria’s National People’s Assembly Ibrahim Boughali.
“We are absolutely open to your country. And we would very much like to build advanced, serious relations with you, perhaps the best among all countries in Africa.
You know that in North, Central and Southern Africa there are countries we are trying to rely on in our cooperation with your African region. It would be very good if Algeria became one of those countries”, he said, according to his press service.
Lukashenka reminded his guest of his visit to Algeria in December 2025 and his talks with the country’s president Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
“During my visit to your country and my negotiations with your president, I became convinced that our economies are fully compatible and that we can offer you what you do not have. In turn, you can help us develop areas in which we have great needs”, he added.
Lukashenka also paid several compliments to the Algerian president and asked that his warmest wishes be conveyed to him. He also recalled the cooperation plan between Belarus and Algeria.
“I would very much like these initiatives, first, to be implemented. Second, to become the foundation of our relations. When either you or we begin building relations with a country, we always speak about flagship, meaningful projects. Such projects have been identified. I very much hope that Algerian parliamentarians will become seriously involved in implementing these projects.
As an influential person in Algeria, I ask you to look at some of our industrial and agricultural facilities. The doors are open everywhere. And draw your own conclusions regarding our future cooperation in establishing joint ventures”, Lukashenka said.
Boughali, in turn, conveyed greetings to Lukashenka from Tebboune.
“Your visit in December last year received broad public attention and became a message to the Algerian people about your interest in strengthening and developing cooperation in various fields: the economy, trade, agriculture, science and culture. We feel there are significant opportunities to increase trade turnover, develop economic cooperation and create joint production facilities to serve the peoples of our countries”, he said.
According to him, Algeria is interested in Belarusian experience in agriculture, industry and pharmaceuticals.
