The Lithuanian Seimas has rejected a proposal to ban Belarusian and Russian citizens residing in the country from participating in municipal elections. In a vote on March 24, 28 lawmakers supported the ban, 28 voted against, and 14 abstained, LRT reports.
Conservative lawmakers had proposed amendments to the country’s Constitution and Electoral Code that would have barred Belarusian and Russian citizens permanently residing in Lithuania from voting and running in local elections.
