Lithuanian politician Vytautas Sinica plans to run for mayor of Vilnius. He will be nominated by the National Alliance party, according to LRT.
Local elections in Lithuania are scheduled to take place early next year.
Seimas member Sinica drew the attention of Belarusian media last summer when he sent a letter to Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys requesting the revocation of the accreditation of the “Representation of Belarusian Democracy”. Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry subsequently refused to consider the parliamentary request. However, the politician attracted considerable public attention.
The National Alliance even expelled Sinica from its ranks, but he became the party’s leader in October last year. The party failed to clear the electoral threshold in the Seimas elections, although Sinica won a seat in parliament through a single-member constituency. In the 2023 Vilnius City Council elections, the party secured three seats.
