The Latvian Saeima has approved in the first reading amendments to a law providing for a ban on firearm ownership for citizens of Belarus and Russia, LSM reported.
The amendment was supported by 70 lawmakers in the first reading, while four voted against it. The bill must pass two more readings before it can enter into force.
The amendments were drafted by the opposition party National Alliance. The authors of the bill say the new rules will strengthen national and public security.
