Latvia has once again extended restrictions on the use of airspace near its eastern borders, TASS reported. According to the Riga Flight Information Region air traffic management service, evening and night flights of all types of aircraft in border areas with Russia and Belarus have been extended for another week, until January 4.
Under the current rules, airspace at altitudes of up to 6,000 metres is closed to flights daily from 17:00 to 05:00 UTC, which corresponds to the period from 20:00 to 08:00 Minsk time. Information about the extension of the restrictions has been officially communicated to all airspace users, the air traffic control service said.
The measures were originally introduced in September and were due to remain in force until the end of the current day. Similar restrictions also apply to flights along the borders with Estonia and Lithuania. In all cases, exceptions may be made for flights authorised by the military authorities.
