Ukraine’s voice in holding representatives of the regime accountable is very important. Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet Pavel Latushka said this during a visit to Ukraine. Today, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is visiting Kyiv together with representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet.
“For me, this visit is important in terms of demonstrating our solidarity with Ukraine and with the Ukrainian people, who are fighting for their freedom and territorial integrity in the fifth year of full-scale aggression”, Latushka said, according to the United Transitional Cabinet.
Latushka noted that during the visit he plans to focus primarily on issues related to holding Lukashenka accountable.
“Belarusians who want a free country are also on the side of Ukrainians. Our heroes are fighting on the front line.
During my stay in Kyiv, I plan to hold a separate meeting with the Director of the Department of International Law and International Legal Counteraction to Aggression at Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Anton Korynevych.
This meeting will follow up on previous meetings. I plan to discuss possible assistance from our side, from the United Transitional Cabinet and the National Anti-Crisis Management, in gathering evidence to transfer to the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court within the framework of the investigation already underway into the unlawful transfer of Ukrainian children from temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Belarus.
We have already submitted two large sets of materials. I personally met with the senior investigating prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and handed the materials over to the ICC prosecutor. We also formally submitted relevant materials to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
The second area I would like to discuss is our support for the creation of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. The National Anti-Crisis Management is currently collecting evidence, which we will, of course, submit both to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and to the prosecutor of the future Special Tribunal, which is expected to be established in The Hague in the near future.
A separately important issue for me will be possible support from Ukraine for the investigation into crimes against humanity committed against the Belarusian people. As you know, this investigation has also been conducted by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court since March. Tens of thousands of Belarusians have been forced to leave the country since 2020 and move to Ukraine, which from the perspective of international law constitutes deportation.
Ukraine recently signed the Rome Statute and became a member of the International Criminal Court. Its voice in this investigation is also very important for us.
I also have a separate meeting scheduled at the Office of the President of Ukraine with the President’s Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk, where I will present specific proposals for strengthening sectoral and personal sanctions against the Lukashenka regime.
We have already cooperated with Ukraine on sanctions issues. I hope this meeting will make this cooperation even more effective”, he said.
