“Attention, Children!” Road Safety Campaign To Start In Belarus

A special comprehensive campaign, “Attention — Children!”, will be held in Belarus from Aug. 25 to Sept. 5. The Interior Ministry reported that the campaign is timed to coincide with the start of the school year and aims to improve the safety of minors on the roads.

During the campaign, drivers will be required to use daytime running lights or dipped headlights during daylight hours.

Traffic police officers will conduct preventive activities and awareness campaigns among the public. Particular attention will be paid to children’s safety, as well as compliance with rules governing the use of motorcycles, bicycles and personal mobility devices. Compliance with traffic rules by drivers and pedestrians will be monitored.

Special attention will also be paid to compliance with rules for transporting children, including the mandatory use of child restraint systems and seat belts.

According to the ministry, 16 minors have been killed and another 245 children injured on Belarusian roads since the beginning of the year.

The traffic police urge parents to constantly monitor their children’s safety and prevent them from accessing car and motorcycle keys. Drivers are advised to exercise particular caution near pedestrian crossings and in residential courtyards.
