Police officers must monitor sentiment at enterprises, keep track of chat groups and compile lists of veterans and volunteer patrol members in case of a “deterioration of the situation.” This was stated by Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou during comprehensive command-and-staff exercises in the Hrodna region.
The exercises began on July 29. The Interior Ministry says their purpose is to assess the readiness of personnel from the internal affairs bodies and the Interior Ministry’s Internal Troops to carry out tasks under special conditions in coordination with all relevant agencies. The drills involve Internal Troops Commander Mikalai Karpiankou, as well as heads of regional divisions of the security services and state authorities.
Kubrakou instructed Interior Ministry personnel to monitor sentiment at enterprises, oversee the content of group chats and make the fullest possible use of Belarus’ national public security monitoring system. In addition, he ordered that lists of veterans and volunteer patrol members “ready to join the ranks in the event of a deterioration of the situation” be compiled as quickly as possible.
