The Belarusian Defense Ministry maintains certain forces along the border with Ukraine, but only in minimal numbers. This was stated by Viktar Khrenin, the country’s defense minister, in a conversation with a Belarusian state television correspondent, excerpts of which were aired on Sunday.
“The tension, as you correctly noted, does exist. There are certain provocations. For the most part, they are heard in the information space in the form of various threats and promises to do one thing or another. In this regard, you have noticed the tactics, but here we need to look at the strategy. And the strategy has been clearly defined by our president: there is absolutely no military sense for us to become involved in the conflict, nor to allow ourselves to be drawn into it, as some say. Of course, we are monitoring what is happening. Of course, we maintain certain forces on the border, but this is in minimal numbers in order to ensure the protection of the state border in cooperation with our border guards,” Khrenin said.
According to him, the primary objective is to ensure the safety and peace of mind of the population.
“On our own territory, we are carrying out tasks aimed, above all, at ensuring the peace and security of our people. Therefore, the strategy defined by our president gives rise to the tactics we have followed for more than a year. We adhere to it and will continue to do so,” he added.
