Israel Criticizes Lukashenka’s Remarks on the Holocaust and the War in Gaza

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sharply criticized comments made by Aliaksandr Lukashenka in an interview with Al Arabiya. In a statement published on the social media platform X, the Israeli Foreign Ministry described the Belarusian leader’s remarks as “unacceptable” and “deeply troubling.”

The ministry stressed that Belarus is a country that “knows all too well the horrors of the Holocaust committed on its own soil.” Against this backdrop, it said Lukashenka’s statements regarding the Holocaust and Israel’s actions were unacceptable.

The Israeli side rejected any attempts to compare the extermination of the Jewish people during World War II with Israel’s current military operations in the Gaza Strip.

“Any comparison between the Holocaust of the Jewish people and Israel’s just war against terrorism must be unequivocally rejected,” the statement said.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry also criticized claims made during the interview that, in Jerusalem’s view, echoed antisemitic conspiracy theories.

“Equally appalling is the revival of vile, outdated antisemitic conspiracies that should have long been consigned to history,” the ministry said.

The statement was published on the official X account of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, Lukashenka said in an interview with Al Arabiya that Israel had no right to speak about the Holocaust because it had attacked Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

“Therefore, Israel needs to be more careful and more cautious here. They have already received such a reputation in the international community that there is nowhere further to fall after bombing Gaza. Many people have even begun to look back at history: ‘What Holocaust? What Holocaust can Israelis speak of when they have killed so many people, especially women and children?'” Lukashenka said. “They have wiped everything off the face of the earth there. They are even planning to build some kind of resort on the bones of those people. It is complete nonsense.”
