Investigative Committee Announces Criminal Case Against Vadanosava

The Investigative Committee said it has taken over a criminal case against host and singer Katsiaryna Vadanosava. Last week the Prosecutor General’s Office said it had opened a criminal case on charges of the rehabilitation of Nazism against a 39-year-old Minsk resident with a double surname beginning with K and V. The Investigative Committee has now publicly named her.

“The Main Investigative Directorate of the central apparatus of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus has taken into production and is investigating a criminal case initiated by the Prosecutor General’s Office against 39-year-old Minsk native Katsiaryna Kalanchuk-Vadanosava,” the committee said in a statement.

Investigators also claimed that Vadanosava acted in close coordination with “extremist formations” and through a YouTube channel “systematically and deliberately produces and distributes materials aimed at the rehabilitation of Nazism.” The statement also stresses that the “particular danger” lies in the “deliberate destructive influence on the consciousness of the population.”

“The content is deliberately designed for an unlimited audience, especially young people, and aims to rewrite history, justify Nazi crimes, spread revanchist sentiments and undermine the fundamental values of the Belarusian people — the memory of the Great Victory, respect for the feat of ancestors, and irreconcilability toward Nazism and fascism,” said Investigative Committee representative Siarhei Kabakovich.

The case is being investigated under Part 3 of Article 130-1 of the Criminal Code (rehabilitation of Nazism committed by a group of persons by prior agreement using the global internet network).
