Belarus’ Interior Ministry said it had detained an 18-year-old resident of Vitsyebsk over messages praising Nazism.
According to the ministry, the young man posted more than 30,000 messages in chat groups “with the aim of promoting, justifying and glorifying the Nazi regime, denying its crimes, propagating far-right ideas and glorifying collaborators from the Second World War.”
“He disseminated knowingly false historical information denying Nazi crimes in Khatyn and other settlements in the country, published related images and praised senior officials of Nazi Germany,” the Interior Ministry said.
The young man was detained by officers of the Main Directorate for Combating Organised Crime and Corruption with support from the Vityaz special forces unit. Criminal cases have been opened.
