The State Control Committee of the Homiel Region has suspended the operations of three shops in Homiel and Zhlobin after uncovering numerous violations in the sale of seeds and plant protection products.

Inspectors found nearly 450 items prohibited for sale — products that had not undergone state registration and were not included in the state register of agricultural plant varieties. More than 900 units of seeds and plant protection products were expired by up to three years. Over 800 items lacked documentation on quality, safety and varietal characteristics.

In addition, ordinary food potatoes were sold to customers as seed potatoes — at nearly four times the price charged in grocery stores.

The substandard products have been removed from sale, and the shops’ operations have been suspended until the violations are addressed. Administrative proceedings have been initiated against those responsible, the committee’s press service said.
