The Hrodna Regional Court has handed down a trial in absentia verdict against 28-year-old Aliaksandr Zubryk. As the human rights center Viasna reported, he was sentenced to 3.5 years in a general-regime penal colony.
The court also counted the period of his detention from February 15 to 18, 2022, toward his sentence. Bail amounting to 12,800 rubles was confiscated in favor of the state. The seizure of the man’s phone was lifted, and it was ordered to be returned to its owner.
Special proceedings against Zubryk were launched in February this year. He was charged under articles related to inciting hatred (Article 130 of the Criminal Code), participation in actions grossly violating public order (Article 342), insulting Lukashenka (Article 368), insulting a government representative (Article 369), and desecration of state symbols (Article 370).
The details of the charges are unknown. According to Dissidentby, he was detained over comments in the “Lida dlya zhizni CHAT” chat and later released on bail pending trial.
