Hair removal erasers have been banned since last Friday at Women’s Correctional Colony No. 4 in Homiel following another emergency incident, Mayday.Team reports.
A hair removal eraser is a block with an abrasive nanoglass surface. It consists of a thin tempered glass plate coated with an abrasive layer. According to the rights group, the incident at the colony involved the use of such a glass plate.
This is the second such ban introduced within a short period. On April 1, all disposable razors were confiscated and destroyed at the colony. Mayday.Team first reported the ban on disposable razors on December 24 last year, when relatives were prohibited from including them in parcels for prisoners. The restriction was introduced after an inmate used a razor blade to injure herself in protest against harsh detention conditions.
After razors were banned, inmates were allowed to use wax strips, hair removal erasers and depilatory creams, which became available in the colony’s shop. Hair removal erasers have now also been prohibited.
