From Portugal to Britain’s WOMAD: Yahor Zabelau Sets Off on Major Summer Festival Tour

Yahor Zabelau, one of Belarus’ most distinctive instrumental musicians and an accordionist, has unveiled the schedule for his extensive summer tour. The musician is set to perform at a series of major European festivals, including the legendary WOMAD festival in the United Kingdom.

The geography of the tour is remarkably diverse, ranging from intimate cultural venues in the Czech Republic to major music festivals in Portugal and the United Kingdom.

  • June 13 — Artorzo, Czech Republic
  • June 26 — Festival Med, Portugal — a landmark Southern European festival showcasing contemporary world music culture.
  • July 3 — Valdštejnská lodžie – kulturní imaginárium, Czech Republic — a performance in the atmospheric Baroque Valdštejn Lodge.
  • July 12 — Festival Inny Wymiar, Białystok Cultural Centre, Poland — an important venue for Belarusian audiences as part of the Inny Wymiar festival.
  • July 18 — Jolie Vue, Switzerland
  • July 25 — WOMAD Festival, United Kingdom — the grand finale of the tour at the world’s largest festival of world music and arts, founded by Peter Gabriel.

Yahor Zabelau is a Belarusian accordionist, composer and creator of a distinctive style that blends elements of neoclassical music, avant-garde, minimalism and experimental ambient. He is known as a co-founder of the duo Gurzuf and as the author of music for numerous theatre productions and films, including the cult silent film “The Golem”. In recent years, the musician has toured extensively across Europe, presenting the Belarusian experimental instrumental scene on international stages.
