A foreign citizen has been detained in the Hrodna Region for bribing traffic police officers.
Belarus’ Ministry of Internal Affairs said that inspectors from the interdistrict traffic police department of the Slonim District Department of Internal Affairs stopped a Ford vehicle for violating overtaking rules. The car was driven by a 38-year-old foreign national.
After learning that the violation could result in the suspension of his driving privileges for up to one year, the driver offered a bribe to the police officers. The ministry said that despite repeated warnings about criminal liability, the man placed the money on the dashboard of the police vehicle.
The foreign national was then detained. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded the public that attempting to bribe a public official is a criminal offense. It also said that if found guilty, the foreign national could face deportation in addition to other penalties.
