What should you do if devils have moved into your house, letters have run away from books into a meadow, or someone has stolen Cat Shprot’s mousemobile? Your children know the answer! This weekend, Warsaw, Gdańsk, Vilnius, and Belarusian Sula are turning into giant interactive playgrounds. We have gathered the best events where you can either simply relax at a picnic or become heroes of real fairy-tale adventures. Choose your location and set off in search of memories!
In the Polish capital, you have two major venues to choose from.
1. A Large Family Celebration at the Belarusian House
The Belarusian House in Warsaw is organizing a true festival with a picnic and a creative atmosphere. Children and parents will enjoy performances by renowned and beloved artists: Aliaksandr Zhdanovich (the legendary Malyavanych), the group “Pugovitsy”, Kryscina Drobysh, Vasil Dranko-Maysiuk, and others.
What to Expect: A family picnic in the open air, interactive zones and creative workshops, musical performances, sports activities, as well as an art and book fair.
When: May 31 (Sunday), starting at 11:00.
Where: Belarusian House in Warsaw (Kryniczna 6).
Admission: Free.
2. “Journey Through the Land of Stories” at the POLIN Museum
The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews has prepared an exciting program based on the temporary exhibition “The Power of Words: About Jewish Languages.”
An important detail for Belarusians: the organizers note that almost the entire event will be available in Belarusian to some extent. This is a great opportunity to spend time in a familiar linguistic environment.
What to Expect: Outdoor games, family quests through the permanent and temporary exhibitions (with puzzle backpacks and family audio guides), building castles from large blocks, making dolls, and the game “Letter Vertigo.”
When: May 31 (Sunday), from 11:00 to 15:00.
Where: POLIN Museum, 6 Anielewicza Street (ul. Anielewicza 6).
Useful to Know: Outdoor activities will take place in tents on the grass, so moving around with strollers may be difficult. Noise-canceling headphones can be borrowed free of charge at the museum, and a quiet room is also available.
The family show “Uladzimir Karatkevich and the One-Eyed Wonder” by Trumast (Tricity) will celebrate Children’s Day with genuine fairy-tale magic. Audiences will see an action-packed puppet performance based on the tales of Uladzimir Karatkevich (“The Peasant and the One-Eyed Wonder,” “The Swan Skete,” and “The Devil’s Treasure”). The production is by Vasil Dranko-Maysiuk, with artistic design by Alena Baiarava.
What to Expect: Audiences will learn how not to give in to despair and how to emerge victorious from the most difficult situations. They will also be able to take part in the performance themselves! Children and adults will be able to transform into brave birds, cheerful bears, or even play the role of a… turnip.
There will be plenty of games, jokes, songs, and dancing.
When: June 1 (Monday), starting at 17:30 (local time).
Where: Filia Gdańska, ul. Mariacka 42, Gdańsk.
Admission: Free (or donations welcome).
Graduation Celebration and Theatre at the Ivan Lutskievich Museum
The Vilnius Belarusian school invites everyone to its final celebration of the academic year. The main event of the day will be a premiere by the school’s theatre group.
What to Expect: The children will perform the play “Cat Shprot and the Missing Mousemobile,” which they have been preparing for diligently over a long period of time. After the performance, all guests are invited to a large children’s party with a sweet table, a disco, soap bubbles, and balloons.
When: May 31 (Sunday), starting at 13:00 (local time).
Where: Ivan Lutskievich Belarusian Museum (Vilniaus g. 20, Vilnius).
Admission: Free.
Children’s Weekend at Sula History Park
If you are in Belarus, an excellent option for a countryside trip is a weekend at the popular historical park near Stowbtsy, where the start of the summer holidays is being celebrated.
What to Expect: Fun games on the Fairground Square, special children’s entertainment, and a meeting with the famous bear Ales, who will be handing out gifts from the partner company “Bely Polyus.”
When: May 30 and 31 (Saturday and Sunday), with activities starting at 14:00.
Where: Sula History Park, Stowbtsy District.
Ticket Prices: Adults — 45 rubles (40 rubles for followers of Sula’s social media accounts); children aged 7 to 17 — 25 rubles; children under 7 are admitted free of charge.
