The Frunzenski District Court of Minsk considered a case involving the use of photographs in stickers without the permission of the person depicted in them.
According to the court’s press service, in August, Sh., the chairman of a physical fitness and sports club in Minsk, learned that offensive stickers using his photographs were circulating in a work chat on Telegram administered by S. He filed a lawsuit seeking 5,000 Belarusian rubles in compensation for moral damages from defendants Zh., P., H. and S.
The court ruled that the defendants had violated the plaintiff’s personal non-property rights and had also disseminated his personal data. The defendants were ultimately ordered to pay 300 Belarusian rubles each in compensation for moral damages. They were also ordered to cover court costs.
They appealed the ruling, but the Minsk City Court upheld the Frunzenski District Court’s decision.
