The conviction of the former director general of a regional forestry production association has entered into legal force. He was found guilty of accepting bribes on a particularly large scale, the Prosecutor General’s Office said.
The Criminal Chamber of the Mahiliou Regional Court upheld the sentence previously handed down by the regional court. The man was sentenced to 10 years in prison, fined 2,000 base units (90,000 Belarusian rubles), and barred from holding positions involving organisational, managerial or administrative responsibilities for five years.
According to the prosecution, from December 2016 to December 2024, the director general systematically accepted bribes from representatives of commercial companies, including foreign firms, as well as from an individual entrepreneur. The payments were allegedly made in exchange for the production and supply of sawn timber and other timber products, as well as the supply and payment for forestry and woodworking equipment, including the settlement of outstanding debts.
In total, the director general received more than 190,000 Belarusian rubles in bribes, including cash in Belarusian and foreign currencies as well as other valuables. In addition, leasing payments were made on his behalf.
