Belarus’ Forestry Ministry commented on reports of a large-scale fire in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exclusion zone. According to the ministry’s press service, the fire does not threaten Belarus.

“We officially state: there is no fire on the territory of Belarus. There is currently no threat either. The fire is located seven kilometers from our border. The Forestry Ministry is closely monitoring the situation in the neighboring country,” the statement said.

Earlier today, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that efforts to extinguish a major fire in the exclusion zone were ongoing. The affected area has already exceeded 1,100 hectares. The situation is complicated by strong wind gusts, drought conditions, and the presence of mined sections of forest.
