European Diplomatic Missions Call for Release of Belarusian Journalists

The embassies of the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, Lithuania, and the European Union delegation in Belarus have called for the release of Belarusian journalists who remain imprisoned. The appeal was made in a joint statement issued today to mark the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, observed on November 2.

“Today is the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. In Belarus, at least 24 journalists are unjustly imprisoned, and many others live in exile. Repression against journalists contradicts Belarus’s international obligations. We call for their release,” the statement said.

According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists, 28 media representatives are currently behind bars.
