Political prisoner Syarhei Ramanau has been hospitalized and undergone surgery, according to @a_partisans, which cited an anonymous source who met him at the hospital. The outlet reported that the procedure was planned and went without complications. He is expected to be transferred back to the penal colony soon.
The authors believe the operation took place at the hospital for convicted inmates in Kalyadichy.
“Health problems with Syarhei had been known for a long time, but due to prison censorship, we received no details,” they wrote.
Syarhei Ramanau was detained while crossing the Belarusian border on the night of October 28–29, 2020. He, along with Ihar Alinevich, Dzmitry Rezanovich, and Dzmitry Dubouski, was charged under several articles related to the arson of police vehicles, a traffic police building, and the State Committee of Forensic Examinations facility in the Homel region. In February 2021, the KGB added the political prisoner to its list of “individuals involved in terrorist activities.” Ramanau was also included in the register of those linked to extremist activities. On December 22, 2021, he was sentenced to 20 years in a maximum-security colony.
He was later tried three more times under Article 411 of the Criminal Code for “persistent disobedience to prison administration requirements.” His total sentence now amounts to 24 years and five months in prison.
