On the night of March 24–25, Lithuanian border guards intercepted a drone that had entered from Belarus in the Šalčininkai District, Delfi reports, citing the State Border Guard Service.
The drone was spotted by officers from the Varėna border unit near the Belarusian border. It was moving deeper into Lithuania toward the village of Avedinė. The unmanned aerial vehicle was forced to land using anti-drone equipment.
At the landing site, officers found two packages containing 240 packs of NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps. Administrative proceedings have been initiated.
Since the beginning of the year, Lithuanian border guards have intercepted 10 drones carrying smuggled cigarettes from Belarus.
