Detentions And Interrogations Reported At Parason Creative Space

The human rights initiative Dissidentby has reported detentions and interrogations at the Parason creative space in Minsk.

No further details have been provided by the rights defenders.

The Parason space is located at 7 Drazda Street in Minsk. Its Telegram channel published announcements of workshops and cultural events dedicated to Belarusian culture.

“Every week Parason hosts folk craft courses and lectures with a wide range of guests. We speak Belarusian about history, cinema, theatre and other interesting topics from the humanities,” the project description states.

Earlier, it became known that Aleh Larychau, organiser of the Urban Myths festival, a public activist and street artist, had been detained. He was recognised as a political prisoner. Musician Ales Chumakou was also detained. This followed the designation of the cultural initiative “Da Zoraŭ” as an “extremist formation.”

Belarusian authorities use accusations of extremism and terrorism to target political opponents and dissent more broadly.
