An eyewitness to the fatal crash involving a minibus in which four Belarusians were killed and another 15 people were injured described details of what happened on Threads. According to him, the crash occurred almost at the very bottom of the road from Gomismta toward Ozurgeti.
At the time the minibus veered off the road and fell into a ravine, the Belarusian who witnessed the tragedy was heading uphill with friends to film the sky from a high point.
«A tree split the minibus in two, some people were thrown through the windows into the ravine, while others were severely trapped between the two halves of the minibus and hung there covered in blood, dying instantly. (…) Several other people were also screaming in pain, trapped underneath, and rescuers were pulling them out. (…) Later, there was also talk that the driver had jumped out of the minibus immediately before the crash. And the minibus was full of Belarusians…», he said.
“The day itself was terrible: we saw as many as four crashes starting from Batumi, where someone had ended up on the hood, a truck that had crashed into a tree, a burned-out truck and, before this horrific crash, the one in the mountains”, he added.
The crash occurred on Aug. 12. A minibus carrying Belarusian tourists veered off the road and fell into a ravine. Four Belarusian citizens were killed and another 15 people were injured, including six minors. Four of those injured were taken to hospitals in Ozurgeti and Chokhatauri, while another 11 people were taken to the Republican Hospital in Batumi. Two of those injured are in intensive care.
Georgian police detained the minibus driver. A criminal case has been opened under an article concerning violation of traffic rules resulting in a person’s death.
