U.S. presidential special envoy for Belarus John Coale will arrive in Vilnius next week and then travel to Minsk, Delfi reported, citing sources.
According to the Lithuanian publication, Coale will arrive in Vilnius on 18 March and then proceed to Minsk.
Previous visits by Coale to the Belarusian capital were accompanied by announcements of U.S. sanctions relief toward Alyaksandr Lukashenka, as well as the release of political prisoners who were subsequently taken out of Belarus.
On Sunday, while visiting a fast-food restaurant of the Mak.by chain, Lukashenka hinted that he expects a delegation from the United States. He even suggested that First Deputy Prime Minister Mikalai Snapkou take the American delegation to one of the chain’s outlets, which operates in place of McDonald’s.
“Now let the Americans come and see. When they come to me, be sure to bring them here. Tell them: let’s go to McDonald’s — and read: ‘MAK.by. Belarusian.’ Belarusians are working, Belarusian equipment, Belarusian product. Eat,” Lukashenka said.
