Ukraine’s Ambassador-at-Large Yaroslav Chornohor congratulated Belarusians on the Day of Military Glory and spoke about his work in the post and cooperation with Belarusian democratic forces.

“Today is Sept. 8, and many people are marking the anniversary of the Battle of Orsha, during which, in 1514, the combined forces of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which at that time included Ukrainian lands, together with Lithuanian, Polish and then Russian — now Ukrainian and Belarusian — peoples, whose representatives inflicted a serious defeat on the Moscow army.

Therefore, among Belarusian democratic forces and Belarusian volunteers, this day is marked as the Day of Belarusian Military Glory. I think this is a day to which we also have a connection. And we are glad to welcome our Belarusian brothers-in-arms who are fighting on Ukraine’s side, and to congratulate society in general that our history has such cases when we were able to successfully defeat Moscow’s forces,” Chornohor said at a briefing at Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry on Sept. 8.

Chornohor also briefly outlined his work as ambassador-at-large. He said that recent communication with Belarusian democratic forces and a number of subsequent steps give “cautious optimism that, in the future, we will see a successful democratic transition in the Belarusian direction that will rid us of the threat from the north.”

According to Chornohor, following Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s visit to Kyiv, a number of decisions were made in specific areas, and work is now under way with Belarusian democratic forces.

“This concerns documenting the Lukashenka regime’s involvement in the aggression against Ukraine, documenting the Lukashenka regime’s involvement in the case of Ukrainian children abducted, as well as the involvement of the dictator from Minsk in supporting the Russian war machine. Information is being collected in these areas, analysis is being conducted, and the information is being passed on to the relevant bodies responsible for sanctions and defence,” the ambassador said.

The Foreign Ministry is also preparing strategic documents concerning Belarus and cooperation with Belarusian democratic forces.
