Potash fertilizer prices continued to rise in the first quarter, according to the January-March report of Canadian company Nutrien.
The average selling price of potash fertilizers amounted to $264 per tonne. This was an increase of 20.5% compared with the same period last year. The average sales price in the North American market rose by 18.1% to $287 per tonne, while prices in other markets increased by 22.5% to $250 per tonne.
In the first quarter, the company sold 3.51 million tonnes of potash fertilizers, 3.2% more than in the same period last year.
Within the sales structure of trader Canpotex, the share of Latin America increased to 41%, while 17% of fertilizers were shipped to China, 1% to India, and 30% to other Asian markets.
The company’s revenue from potash fertilizers increased by 24% to $926 million, while gross profit rose by 38% to $504 million.
Potash fertilizer production volumes increased by 11.3% to 3.66 million tonnes.
The company did not revise its forecast for the potash fertilizer market for this year.
“Global potash fertilizer demand remains strong, and we maintained our previous forecast for global potash shipments in the range of 74 million to 77 million tonnes in 2026. We expect relatively tight conditions in the potash market throughout 2026, with demand trends expected to test existing global operating and supply chain capabilities,” the report said.
At the same time, the document notes that the conflict in the Middle East disrupted global fertilizer markets, affected nitrogen and phosphate supplies from the region, and influenced the cost and availability of related raw materials.
