Belstat Reveals What Goods Are Brought Into Belarus From Poland and Lithuania

Belstat has published the results of a sample survey of individuals conducted at road border crossing points. The survey was carried out on April 11. A total of 2,621 questionnaires were distributed at the border, of which 1,748 were completed.

According to Belstat, 49.8% of respondents were non-residents.

Some 43.3% of respondents reported importing goods, while 42.5% reported exporting goods.

Imports were mainly brought into Belarus from Poland (71% of the total value of imported goods) and Lithuania (21.1%).

“The main categories of imported goods were computer equipment and communication devices (imported at an average value of $631 per person who reported importing and stated the value of this category of goods), auto parts ($258), household electrical appliances ($218), plumbing supplies ($161), power tools and chainsaws ($126), footwear ($90), clothing ($86), and food products ($48).”, Belstat said.

Goods were exported from Belarus primarily to Poland (48.9% of the total value of exported goods) and Latvia (28.3%).

“The main categories of exported goods were computer equipment and communication devices (exported at an average value of $555 per person who reported exporting and stated the value of this category of goods), household electrical appliances ($147), clothing ($73), footwear ($62), gasoline and diesel fuel ($57), and food products ($39).”, the statistical committee added.

The main reasons Belarusian citizens traveled abroad were visiting relatives and friends (33.8% of all completed questionnaires), employment (28.4%), and leisure, medical treatment, sightseeing or religious pilgrimage (17.8%).

For non-residents entering Belarus, the main purposes of travel were visiting relatives and friends (67.8%) and transit travel (14.1%).
