Lithuanian border guards detained a 41-year-old Belarusian citizen at the Medininkai border crossing after he arrived as a passenger in a Kyrgyz-registered Kia Carnival.
During passport control, officers discovered that the man had been wanted by the Lithuanian police since April 2020. He had failed to serve a custodial sentence imposed by a Lithuanian court. The statute of limitations for enforcing the sentence expires in January 2030.
According to the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, the man held a residence permit in Lithuania from November 2013 to December 2015. He now has a Spanish residence permit.
It also emerged that the Belarusian citizen is wanted not only by the Lithuanian police but also by French law enforcement authorities.
The border guards detained the man and later handed him over to the police.
